Kuwait National cricket team under the astute captaincy of Hisham Mirza will be leaving for Singapore tonight to participate in the ACC Elite League 2014 starting from 7th June. The event organized by Singapore Cricket Association on behalf of Asian Cricket Council (ACC). It is of great significance to Kuwait Cricket as they have to win the six-nation event in order to be promoted to the Premier League and to also advance a claim to a place in the WCL- Division 6 (World Cricket League).
The 14 member squad consists of some experienced players featured in many previous overseas tours and a few youngsters who had been knocking the door to be in the national side since a couple of years. The selected squad had a fruitful domestic season with a consistent outing in various local cricket tournaments.
Apart from Kuwait, the teams vying for the top honors will be host Singapore, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain & Bhutan and grueling event has 50 overs back to back matches played at Indian Association Ground, Kallang Cricket Ground and Singapore Cricket Club.
The formidable Kuwait squad is beaming with confidence and with its increasingly adept aggression, proven spinners and with its tremendous fighting spirit is fancied and with a title Perennial dark horses has to come back home victorious. The team has been undergoing vigorous training since the past couple of months under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Arjuna Amaratunga & Sheikh Ayub and the young outfit has game sense, flair and undoubted skill and as a team has to crave that step up to the top.
Hisham Mirza, the longest serving captain of Kuwait national squad is a talented batsmen & has been a regular member of the National team ever since his representation in the first ACC trophy 2000. Leads Kuwait to clinch WCL division 8 in Kuwait and Division 7 in Botswana. Cunning off spinner who can break partnerships and an excellent fielder.
Abdullah Ghulam is an experienced right arm leg spinner and one of the senior most players in the squad. A useful hard hitting batsman who can give a surprise to any opponent
Saad Khalid is a genuine all-rounder naturally gifted with immense talent who can bowl really fast and a clean hitter of the cherry
AbdulRehman Liaqat Ali has represented Kuwait in junior category and can bat late order and a handy cricketer
Mohammed Ghulam is the specialist wicket keeper batsman who can be useful an opening bat.
Abdul Jabbar rose from the junior level and a dependable middle order bat and right arm off break bowler.
Ali Zaheer is a talented south paw who can stick to the wicket and a trump card of any captain as a slow wrist spinner.
Mohamed Amin bats down the order and can whack with awesome power. A remarkable fielder.
Abid Mushtaq is a gifted right handed opener who likes to fly the ball in the sky and over the ropes. One of the Best and hard hitting cricketer of Kuwait.
Muhammad Irfan is an opening batsman with nimble footwork and plays with great passion opener. Highest Scorer of the current cricket season of Kuwait.
Faizan Ali is a genuine left arm medium fast bowler with a nippy action and can swing the ball either way.
Fiaz Ahmad: making his debut as a fast bowler. A lot of expectations from him.
