Kuwait Airways Announces Layoffs of Expats and Retirees to Promote Local Employment
Kuwait Airways has revealed plans to terminate the contracts of expatriate workers and retirees as part of an effort to enhance national employment and cut costs.
In a statement shared on X, the airline cited high salaries and an expanding workforce as key factors driving these changes.
The airline emphasized that the layoffs are aimed at creating opportunities for Kuwaiti nationals, revitalizing the workforce, and lowering unemployment rates.
Previously, Kuwait Airways had rehired retired employees with specialized skills to improve operations. However, these employees have now been let go due to the recent organizational shifts.
In 2020, the airline also laid off 1,500 foreign workers in response to the significant financial strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
