Ministry of Interior in a decision which is expected to come into force from January 2017 will exempt a sponsor from paying the airfare for a maid reported absconding, or in case if there is criminal charge against the maid, reports Al- Shahed daily.

According to earlier decision the sponsor of the domestic worker was responsible for return ticket to home country if he/she is reported absconding or arrested for a crime.

According to reliable sources, the Interior Ministry will punish those who hire and shelter runaway maids.

Add to this, General Department for Residence Affairs will interrogate the absconder following the arrest to identify who sheltered him or her and then take legal action and force the ‘employer’ to pay the value of the ticket.
