A member of the Rights of the Child Office at the Ministry of Health Dr Dana Al- Haqqan, has revealed 30 cases of child abuse and 144 physical assaults, 15 cases of emotional deprivation and 102 neglect have been reported during 2016, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Al-Haqqan said some families refuse to report abuse cases involving their children for fear of scandal breaking out. He pointed out, courts have issued verdicts issued against child abusers and they will be punished under the Kuwaiti Penal Code which is up to two years imprisonment and bail 1,000 dinars.
She explained the ministry had formed teams in 2014 to protect children and provide psychological and social rehabilitation to the child and the family, She stressed on the importance of these teams in hospitals and health zones to provide moral support to the families.
