Acting Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Fahd Al-Shuwea has issued instructions to all traffic departments in the six governorates to activate the traffic law concerning parking vehicles in ‘No Parking’ zones and vehicles which cause traffic jam, reports Al-Anba daily.
A traffic source told the daily the registration number plates will be withdrawn for 15 days after citing the violation and the law shall be applied on all citizens and residents. According to the source, these instructions were issued after it was discovered the number plates were returned to the owners of car soon after they pay the fines or rather there was indifference in the behavior.
The source said the purpose of the law is not to collect money but to reduce traffic congestion in residential and commercial areas due to vehicles parked indiscriminately. The source revealed Major-General Al-Shuwea is in the process of withdrawing the car plate numbers of vehicles which are parked on pavements and tow the vehicles to the vehicle-detention garage.
