New Taxi and Bus fares (rates) in Kuwait

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al- Sabah has issued ministerial decisions amending taxi fares and those of other public transports, which include the fares of call and roving taxi cabs, rep orts Al-Seyassah daily.

The decisions stipulate amendment to Articles 1 and 2 of the Ministerial Decision 173/1982 where private taxis will charge initial service fee of 500 fils upon boarding. The driver will then charge 150 fils per kilometer and 50 fils per each minute of waiting, and in case the car develops a fault, the driver will not count the period of waiting, indicating he will do the calculation according to the distance covered.

Secondly, the airport Limousine and taxis will charge KD 5 for 4-passenger salon car, KD 7 for 5-passenger car, KD8 for 7-passenger and KD 13 for long Limousine. The prices will cover passengers from the airport to Subhan, Al-Meqwa’a, Farwaniya, Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Rehab, Ishbiliya, Ardhiya, Rabiya, Rai, Omariya, Kheitan, Sadeq, Salam, Haten, Shuhada, Zahra, Dhahiya Mubarak Al-Abdullah, Surra, Qortuba and Yarmouk.

The drivers will charge KD 6 for 4-passenger cars, KD 8 for 5-passenger, KD 13 for 7-passenger and KD 18 for long Limousine for passengers going to Khalidiya, Adeiliyah, Faiha, Keifan, Shamiya, Kuwait City, Shuwaih Industrial Area, Shuwaikh Residential Area, Regae, Andalous Granata, Sulaibikhat, and Dhahiya Abdullah Al-Salem. Fares for commuters going to Rumaithiya, Salwa, Messila, Bayan, Mishref, and Dhahiya Mubarak Al- Abdullah will be KD 6 for 4-passenger vehicle, KD 8 for 5-passenger vehicle, KD 13 for 7-passenger vehicle and KD 18 for long Limousine.

In case commuters are going to Hawalli, Nugra, Meidan Hawalli, Sha’ab, Salmiya, Da’iya, Rawdha, Qadsiya, Nuzha, Dasma, Bneid Al-Gar, Mansouriya and Jabriya, they are to pay KD 6 for 4-passenger vehicle, KD 8 for 5-passenger vehicle, KD 13 for 7-passenger vehicle and KD 18 for long Limousine.

As for areas like Firdous, Sulaibiya, Dhahiya Sabah Al-Nasser, West Abdullah Mubarak, and Abdullah Mubarak, commuters will pay KD 7, KD 10, and KD 13 respectively for the number of passengers per car, while KD 18 will be charged for long Limousine. Passengers going to Dhaher, Qurain, Adan, Qasour, Dhahiya Jaber Al-Ali, Funaites, Fintas, Hadiyyah, Riqqa and Fahad Al-Ahmad will pay KD 7, KD 13 and KD 18 respectively, while long Limousine will cost KD 22.

Trips from the airport to Mangaf, Sabahiya, Fahahel, Ahmadi, Shuaiba Industrial Area, Sabah Al-Ahmad and Ali Sabah Al-Salem costs KD 7, KD 13 and KD 18 respectively, and long Limousine KD 22. With regard to Jahra, Mitla’a, Doha Port, Entertainment City, Jaber Al- Ahmad, Saad Al-Abdullah, Qairawan, Nahda, Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port and West Suleibikhat, the fare is KD 12, 18 and 22, depending on the number of passengers in the car, and KD 27 for limousine.

Fare of areas including Zour Port, Kheiran, Sabah Al-Ahmad Coastal City is KD 17, 22 and 27, depending on the number of passengers in the car, and KD 32 for limousine. Finally, the fare of Abdali, Al-Salmi, Al-Nuweiseeb, Al-Wafra and Al- Sabiyah areas is KD 21, 27 and 32, depending on the number of passengers in the car, and KD 35 for limousine.

Article two of the decision specifies individual fares as follows: The bus fare for Sour area is KD 0.150; from Kuwait City up through the residential areas up to the Third Ring Road, back and forth, is KD 0.200; from Kuwait City through the residential and industrial areas up to the Fourth Ring Road, back and forth, is KD 0.250; from Kuwait City to the residential and industrial areas up to the Fifth Ring Road, back and forth, is KD 0.300; from Kuwait City to the residential and industrial areas up to the Sixth Ring Road, back and forth, is KD 0.350; and from Kuwait City to Ahmadi and Fahaheel, back and forth, is KD 0.500; from Kuwait City to Jahra, back and forth, is KD 0.600, and to areas in Abdali, Al-Salmi and Al-Nuweiseeb, back and forth, is KD 2.500. As to taxi on demand and its fare charges counted by meters as stipulated by Law No. 2029/2001, the meter starts at KD 0.600 while boarding, and KD 0.200 will be charged for every kilometer, and KD 0.070 for every minute of waiting.

In case of mechanical problem while in a taxi, the waiting period will not be counted; only the covered distance will be taken into account. As per Law No. 182/2004 concerning the fare charged by mobile taxis, the meter starts at KD 0.350 while boarding and then KD 0.125 will be charged for every kilometer and KD 0.040 for every minute of waiting.

In case of mechanical problem while in a taxi, the waiting period will not be counted; only the covered distance will be considered.
