Surprise campaigns were launched in various governorates based on directives from Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah and under the supervision of the respective security commands.

According to security sources, the campaigns resulted in the arrest of 530 individuals who are reported as absconders and/ or wanted for criminal and civil lawsuits, 960 individuals who violated the residency law or did not carry any identification documents and several others on various other violations.

In addition, 91 cases related to liquor and drugs were filed during the campaigns, 19 wanted vehicles were impounded and hundreds of traffic citations were issued.

Meanwhile, security sources revealed that security authorities have been working on taking necessary steps in preparation of the New Year celebrations in order to ensure complete control of roads, streets and borders, and prevent any immoral activities or religious actions.

They explained that Ministry of Interior, due to the current exceptional circumstances within the region, has taken all necessary security and traffic related procedures. Strict directives have been issued to all border employees to toughen the search processes and increase the level of cautiousness.

The sources warned people from carrying out any actions that can annoy the celebrating families or expose the lives of road users to danger. They affirmed that use of fireworks and spraying of colors or foams are prohibited during the celebrations. The sources stressed that the senior leaders are following up the situation closely along with all of the control rooms.
