A dentist in Jahra allegedly turned extra invoices into cash for himself, at his patientsโ expense.
Kuwaitโs General Department of Criminal Investigations has arrested a Syrian dentist working at the Jahra Specialized Dental Center. He is suspected of fraud, deception and unlawfully taking money from patients. The arrest came from the Department for Combating Forgery and Counterfeiting Crimes, part of wider efforts you may have seen covered in our report on a Jahra security sweep in the same area last week.
- A Syrian dentist at Jahra Specialized Dental Center was arrested on suspicion of fraud.
- He allegedly made patients buy more implant and restoration supplies than they actually needed.
- He then reportedly returned the unused items to pharmacies and kept the refund money, without telling patients.
- He confessed to doing this in 5 cases, taking between KD 120 and KD 150 each time.
What investigators say happened
According to the Ministry of Interior, the dentist told patients they needed extra supplies for their dental implant or restoration treatment. He gave them purchase invoices to make the extra cost look normal and necessary.
Once the treatment was finished, he allegedly took the leftover, unused supplies back to pharmacies himself. He then kept the refunded money, and the patients were never told any of it was returned.
Security officers built the case through investigation and surveillance before moving in. They arrested him at his workplace and found dental restoration tools and purchase invoices in his possession, which matched what investigators had already suspected.
How many patients were affected
When officers confronted him with the evidence, the dentist reportedly admitted to the scheme. He said he had done this more than once, across 5 separate treatment cases. The amounts he is accused of keeping ranged from KD 120 to KD 150 per case.
It is not yet confirmed whether more patients may have been affected, or whether the clinic itself is under any separate review. The case has now been referred to the competent authorities for legal action, and it will be for the courts to decide the outcome.
Why this matters if you live in Kuwait
Dental work in Kuwait, whether at a private clinic or a specialised centre like this one in Jahra, often involves buying implants or materials separately from the treatment fee. Thatโs normal. Whatโs not normal is being told you need far more supplies than your treatment actually requires.
This case is a reminder for anyone getting dental implants or restoration work done here, citizen or expat, to ask simple questions before paying: how many units of material does this treatment actually need, and can you see the invoice before, not after, the purchase. If a clinic hands you a bill for supplies well beyond what seems reasonable, itโs fair to ask for an explanation or a second opinion.
Weโve covered a few cases recently where trust in a professional or a service was used against patients and shoppers, from a man posing as a doctor at Jahra Hospital to an online phone ad scam that cost a shopper KD 200. The pattern is similar: someone in a position of trust, or pretending to be, uses paperwork or promises to take money quietly.

Quick answers
Was the dentist convicted?
No. He has been referred to the authorities for legal action. He is a suspect, and this has not yet gone through the courts.
Can affected patients get their money back?
The source does not say whether refunds to patients have been arranged. This is one of the details worth watching as the case moves forward.
What should I do if I think I was overcharged for dental supplies?
Ask your clinic for a clear breakdown of what you paid for, and compare it with what your treatment actually required. If something doesnโt add up, you can raise it with the clinic directly or seek advice on filing a complaint.
Have you ever felt pushed to buy more medical supplies than you needed at a clinic in Kuwait? Itโs worth sharing your experience in the comments, it might help someone else ask the right question next time.
