Trump delays Iran strikes to give talks more time
โฑ 2 min read

If youโ€™ve been following the back-and-forth over possible US strikes on Iran, hereโ€™s some news that might ease your worries, for now. President Donald Trump is choosing to give diplomacy more time, even though Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for fresh strikes right after Tuesdayโ€™s US midterm elections.

Thatโ€™s according to Axios, which cited one Israeli and one US official familiar with a phone call between the two leaders on Saturday. For people living in the Gulf, including Kuwait, this matters because Gulf states were recently told to brace for possible Iran strikes, and any delay in military action lowers the immediate risk of a wider conflict near us.

Netanyahu reportedly wants new strikes on Iran as soon as the midterm elections wrap up on 3 November. Trump, though, is running two tracks at once: heโ€™s open to an agreement that could restart peace talks, while also keeping preparations ready for more military action later, Axios reported.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Trump said negotiations with Iran were โ€œgoing fineโ€. He added he wasnโ€™t โ€œin much of a hurryโ€ to strike again. But he was also clear that the US still has one or two Iranian nuclear sites to deal with. He specifically named the suspected underground nuclear site at Pickaxe Mountain. This echoes what we reported after Trump said the US may still strike one or two Iran sites on 1 November, and follows weeks of similar warnings, including Trump signalling more strikes were possible back on 23 October.

Where do the diplomatic efforts stand?

Last week, US Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iranโ€™s Supreme National Security Council, about restarting negotiations. Rezaei confirmed he received and studied the letter. He called Washingtonโ€™s changed tone
