Customs officers at the Salmi border post have confiscated large quantities of subsidized foodstuffs, including milk powder, oil, rice, tomato paste and others, reports Al- Anba daily.
The daily added, the contraband was found hidden beneath the goods in a truck which was on its way to an unidentified Arab country.
On the other hand, the Al- Rai daily said a customs source said the officers recently foiled three attempts of two Egyptians and a Jordanian to smuggle subsidized foodstuffs outside the country, reports Al-Rai daily.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a Syrian for impersonating police and using blue flasher light. He was caught in Jahra, reports Al-Anba daily. When he was seized by the police, securitymen found with him an air gun, military ID and sachets of heroin.
