Landmark Group Opens Registrations for the fifth edition ‘Beat Diabetes’ Walkathon

Landmark Group, the region’s leading retail and hospitality conglomerate, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Dasman Diabetes Institute is set to host its 5th edition of the ‘Beat Diabetes’ walkathon in Kuwait. The group encourages Kuwait to register and participate in the walk which will be held on Saturday, November 01, 2014. It will flag off from the Yacht Club and end at Green Island.

Open to all age groups, the 3.1km walk is organized to raise awareness about diabetes, which affects over 382 million people worldwide. Participation in the walkathon is free of charge and all registered participants are given a walkathon kit comprising of t-shirts and caps .Qualified trainers will lead a mass warm-up session prior to the walk.

Globally, 14 November is observed as the Diabetes Awareness Day with a series of events marked worldwide to raise awareness on the condition. Under the Landmark Group’s Beat Diabetes initiative, the walkathon is held across seven countries over the months of November and December as a culmination of a year-long calendar of activities.

It is in our efforts to continue spreading awareness about both type 1 and type 2 diabetes especially in children and adolescents. Through the Beat Diabetes campaign, we aim to encourage people to eat healthy, exercise frequently and regularly take the blood glucose test. We urge everyone in the community to come forward on 1st November to support this cause.”

Free blood glucose test will be conducted during the walk and also on 24th, 25th, 26th Oct. and 14th Nov. across Centrepoint stores in Kuwait. The Beat Diabetes initiative encourages people to monitor blood glucose levels through regular screening. It also focuses on dispelling myths about the condition through information driven activities that inspire people to eat healthy and stay active.beatd

This year the ‘Beat Diabetes’ campaign will be promoted through various media including newspapers, magazines and Facebook. Registrations from October onwards will be open and can be done across all Centrepoint, Max, Home Centre and New Look outlets. Individuals, groups and organizations can also register for the walk through the Beat Diabetes website www.beatdiabetes.me or the Landmark Group Kuwait’s facebook page.

In 2013, the Landmark Group’s ‘Beat Diabetes’ walkathon attracted over 60,000 people and over 75,000 people took the free blood glucose test across seven countries. With an ardent belief that creating awareness is crucial to take control of diabetes, the Group continues to undertake various activities year round to “Beat Diabetes”.
