nKuwait being the first Arab nation for Asian Games
The Kuwait national cricket team under the able president ship of Sheikh Dari Fahed Al Ahmad Al Sabah comprising of only Kuwaiti Nationals will have the distinction of being the first Arab country ever to participate in the forthcoming Asian games at Incheon, South Korea during the month of September 2014. Kuwait Cricket, the apex body of controlling cricket in Kuwait is under the auspicious of Kuwait Olympic Committee and has been an associate member of International Cricket Council (ICC) since 2005 and a full member of Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Kuwait Cricket was formed in 1996 and they became an affiliate member of the ICC two years later. They participated in the ACC Trophy for the first time in 2000 and later on has pulled off a series of upsets to finish in third place in the ACC Trophy, only just missing out on qualification for the 2005 ICC Trophy.

Kuwait Cricket has hosted eleven International tournaments including the World Cricket League Division 8 which they won in 2010 and later on won the WCL Division Seven in Botswana in May 2011.

Cricket made its debut at the 16th Asian Games 2010 at Guangdong International Cricket Stadium, Guangzhou, China where it was one of 42 sports. The matches were played in Twenty20 format. Both Men’s and Women’s tournaments were conducted and in the men’s event Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan in the final event to win the gold medal while the latter won the silver. Pakistan won its first cricket gold in women’s event while Bangladesh gained silver.

The Kuwait National cricket team will be led by Mahmoud Bastaki, a spirited and inspiring leader who has been instrumental in forming, mentoring and building up the first ever National squad of Kuwaiti players. Mahmoud Bastaki, the longest serving Kuwaiti player fell in love with cricket during his schooling days in India and continued playing cricket with the expat players upon his return back to Kuwait. A dashing all-rounder who can excel in all department of the game has been playing cricket in Kuwait since the last 30 years.

The team has been undergoing vigorous training skills since 4 months and the team will be heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to play practice matches with local teams to get more exposure and gain experience while playing on different turfs which will help the young Kuwaiti players to continue to mature and as the sport grows and improves at the grass-roots level, they will produce good quality youngsters who can play at a high standard and can continue the national side’s rapid rise. Ahli United Bank who has been supporting and sponsoring cricket events in Kuwait has come forward generously in sponsoring the Kuwaiti team’s trip to Malaysia.

Moreover, playing matches abroad on various turf grounds will help the team to adapt and learn about conditions at Incheon as the bouncy pitches, the swing and seam movement will be very unfamiliar to the Kuwaiti players.

Kuwait team will play its first match against Nepal on September 27th and will clash with Maldives on September 29th.
