Thatโs a huge area, and it covers some of the most popular desert camping spots Kuwait residents already know well.
- Kuwait Municipality has proposed 11 camping sites for the 2026-2027 season.
- Combined, the sites can fit about 120,000 camps at 1,000 square metres each.
- Umm Safaq and Khairan Road is the largest site, followed by Al-Naโim and the boysโ camping area.
- Separately, the municipality issued 3 building violations and 7 warnings during recent inspections in Hawalli.
Which areas made the list?
The proposed sites cover familiar names for anyone who has camped in Kuwait before. Hereโs the full breakdown the municipality released:
- The boysโ camping area: 40,276,873 square metres, room for 16,000 camps.
- Kazma: 8,616,234 square metres, room for 3,440 camps.
- Al-Mutlaa at Kilometre 8: 12,085,492 square metres, room for 4,800 camps.
- Al-Mutlaa at Kilometre 14: 10,690,227 square metres, room for 4,276 camps.
- Al-Jahra: 25,353,775 square metres, room for 10,000 camps.
- Al-Naโim: 40,961,578 square metres, room for 16,000 camps.
- Kabd and Sulaibiya: 12,503,498 square metres, room for 5,000 camps.
- Sabah Al-Ahmad residential camping area: 21,529,000 square metres, room for 8,400 camps.
- Al-Halba and Umm Al-Hayman: 6,711,231 square metres, room for 2,680 camps.
- Arifjan: 15,260,744 square metres, room for 6,000 camps.
- Umm Safaq and Khairan Road: 109,423,702 square metres, room for an estimated 43,600 camps.
That last one, Umm Safaq and Khairan Road, is by far the biggest site on the list. It alone can take more camps than most of the other sites combined.
So why does this matter to you?
If camping is part of your winter routine in Kuwait, this list is basically your map for the season. Families, groups of friends, and anyone planning a getaway from the city will want to know which areas are officially open and how much room there is.
These are proposed sites, meaning the municipality has identified and measured them as part of its preparations for the season. Theyโre designed to spread out demand across the six governorates so popular spots donโt get too crowded, and so camping stays organised and safe.
