Article 31: Automatic Renewal

In simple words

If a fixed-term contract ends but you keep working and the employer keeps you, the contract renews automatically for the same period and on the same terms. Your past rights are not affected.

Situation

Ramesh’s 2-year contract ended in March, but he kept working and nobody signed anything new.

What the law says

The contract renews automatically for the same period on the same terms. His service is continuous, so his indemnity counts all his years.

Official text of Article 31
If the work contract is for a limited period and both parties continue to implement it after the expiry of its term without extension, it shall be automatically renewable for similar periods under the same conditions contained therein, unless the two parties agree to renew it under other conditions. In all cases, the renewal shall not affect the labourers accrued dues arising from the previous contract.
