Article 18: Post-Training Employment Obligation

In force

In simple words

After an apprenticeship or training paid by the employer, the worker must work for that employer for the same length of time (up to 5 years). If he leaves early, the employer can ask him to repay part of the training costs, in proportion to the time left.

Example

Resigning soon after paid training

Situation

Maria’s company paid KD 1,200 for a 6-month certification course. She resigns 3 months after finishing it.

What the law says

She had to stay for the same period as the training (6 months). She left with 3 months (half) remaining, so the employer can ask her to repay about half of the cost: KD 600.

Names are made up for illustration.
