If you’ve picked up a slice of cake from a corner bakery in the last few weeks, this one might make you pause before your next order.
Inspectors from the Capital Governorate have shut down the kitchen of a shop that was making cakes and sweets using ingredients that were expired or otherwise unfit for people to eat. It wasn’t a small stash either.
The find came out of a routine-sounding inspection campaign, but what they pulled out of that shop was anything but routine.
- The Capital Governorate Inspection Department, under the General Authority for Food and Nutrition, raided a shop making cakes and sweets
- Inspectors found expired ingredients and adulterated food being used in the products
- Officials destroyed 210.943 kilograms of unfit and adulterated food on the spot
- Violation reports were filed and legal action has started against those running the shop
What exactly did they find?
The Authority said the shop was preparing cakes and sweets using food materials that were unfit for human consumption, including expired products. On top of that, inspectors found the business was trading in adulterated food, meaning ingredients that had been altered or mixed in ways that make them unsafe or misleading to sell.
Once the violations were confirmed, officials moved straight to disposal. A total of 210.943 kilograms of unfit and adulterated food was destroyed during the campaign, and violation reports were issued against the shop.
So what happens to the shop now?
The Authority said standard legal procedures have been initiated against those responsible. That typically means the case moves through Kuwait’s food safety enforcement process, which can lead to fines or further penalties depending on how serious the violations are judged to be.
Officials also stressed that this isn’t a one-off effort. Inspection campaigns across food establishments are set to continue, with the stated goal of making sure shops stick to health and safety requirements. This case follows close on the heels of <a href=
