If you grew up around FAIPS in Fahaheel, you might remember Ruth Rachel Zachariah as the quiet topper who finished her 12th grade with a rank. These days she’s on a stage in London, in a Kerala half-sari with a modern twist, being crowned First Runner-Up at a national pageant.
For families in Kuwait’s Indian community, especially those from Kerala, this is the kind of news that travels fast on WhatsApp groups. A girl who was practically one of their own, educated here, raised here, has gone on to represent South Indian culture on a London stage – and done rather well at it.
- Ruth Rachel Zachariah, born and raised in Kuwait, finished First Runner-Up at Miss South India UK 2026.
- The grand finale was held on 20 September at The Tower Hotel by Thistle in London, organised by Stardust Pageants.
- She also won the Best Etiquette award and impressed judges with a Kathak performance.
- Actress Shriya Saran was among the judges and crowned her.
Who is Ruth, and how did she get here?
Ruth is an ex-student of FAIPS (DPS) in Kuwait. She finished her 12th grade in 2020 with rank, and that same year was selected as the Pearl of Kuwait for her academic and extracurricular record. After school, she moved to the UK for higher studies and now lives and works in London.
Miss South India UK 2026 was her first pageant. The road to the final wasn’t short: auditions included a traditional-attire ramp walk, a talent round and an interview panel, before finalists moved on to the grand finale itself, which brought together contestants across Miss, Mr and Mrs categories celebrating South Indian heritage in the UK.
What she brought to the stage
At the finale, Ruth took part in a group walk, a solo walk with self-introduction, and a question-and-answer round. Her talent round performance was Kathak, which organisers said drew enthusiastic applause from the audience. For traditional attire, she wore a Kerala half-sari styled with a modern touch.
During the Q&A round, she was asked what being South Indian, and specifically a Keralite, meant to her. She described it as being part of
