If youโ€™ve ever wondered who keeps Kuwaitโ€™s power stations, oil fields and water plants running smoothly, a good number of them spent last Thursday at Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel, not on the job but comparing notes on how to do it better.

The Tamilnadu Engineers Forum Kuwait, known locally as TEF-Kuwait, held its 17th Technological Innovations Conference & Exposition, or TICE, alongside its 10th Engineering Excellence Awards on 15 October 2026. More than 1,000 delegates from Kuwaitโ€™s engineering and technology sectors turned up, making it one of the bigger professional gatherings the community has held in recent years.

Itโ€™s not the kind of event that changes a fee or a queue overnight. But itโ€™s the kind of event where the people behind Kuwaitโ€™s oil, gas and power infrastructure spend a day trading ideas, which is worth knowing about if you work in or near those industries, or if youโ€™re simply curious about whoโ€™s shaping them.

โšก The short version
  • TEF-Kuwaitโ€™s TICE 2026 drew over 1,000 delegates to Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel on 15 October
  • A record 101 exhibitors took part, alongside 24 technical paper presentations
  • The 10th Engineering Excellence Awards recognised 36 recipients, both companies and individual professionals
  • Senior figures from KNPC, KOC and the Indian Embassy in Kuwait attended and spoke

Who turned up, and who opened it

The exhibition was inaugurated by Manas Raj Patel, Chargรฉ dโ€™Affaires at the Embassy of India in Kuwait, together with Davinder Punj, the embassyโ€™s Second Secretary for Commerce and Consular Affairs. Also cutting the ribbon were Fahad Al Daihani, Chairman of Kuwait National Petroleum Company, and Jassem Al Nouri, Chairman of Gulf Alliance for Power & Water Co. The four toured the exhibition stands, checking out the products, technologies and services on display from the 101 exhibitors.

The formal conference programme followed, opening with a welcome address from TEF-Kuwait General Secretary Agnel Charles and a presidential address from TEF-Kuwait President Rajendra Kannan. Al Daihani gave the inaugural address and Al Nouri delivered the keynote. Other guests in the room included Talal Mutlaq Al Otaibi, Manager of Associated Gas Operations at Kuwait Oil Company; Ahmad Issa Alown, Manager of Technical Services at KNPC; Shuaib M. Shuaib, Manager of Projects and Technical Services at Wafra Joint Operations; and Sabah Al Shammari, Director of Golden Palm Petroleum Services.

What actually happened at the conference

Beyond the opening speeches, the day was built around 24 technical paper presentations, giving engineers and innovators a chance to showcase their work to peers. The 10th Engineering Excellence Awards then recognised 36 recipients, split between companies and individual professionals, for their contributions to the engineering sector in Kuwait. Patel, Al Daihani and Al Nouri handed out the awards.

A video presentation walked the room through TEF-Kuwaitโ€™s 27-year history, tracing the organisation back to its founding in December 1999 and its continuing role supporting Kuwaitโ€™s engineering community and promoting technology and innovation.

Addressing the delegates, Kannan said TICE was never meant to be only about new technology. He told participants it was just as much about learning, professional growth and exchanging ideas, and he encouraged them to use the day to broaden their knowledge, sharpen their skills and learn from one another.

The event, run by the TEF-Kuwait organising committee, wrapped up with lunch at 2:30 pm, closing out a programme built around innovation, professional development and engineering excellence. TEF-Kuwait also thanked its presenting partners for backing the event.

Why this matters if you live in Kuwait

TEF-Kuwait has been active in the country for 27 years, and a conference this size says something about how established the Indian engineering community is within Kuwaitโ€™s oil, gas, power and water sectors. Many of the companies represented on stage, KNPC, KOC, Wafra Joint Operations and Gulf Alliance for Power & Water, are the same ones running the systems that keep fuel, electricity and water flowing across the country.

For engineers and technology professionals in Kuwait, especially those from the Indian community, TICE is one of the few dedicated platforms each year to present technical work, meet industry leaders and be recognised for it through the Engineering Excellence Awards. For everyone else, itโ€™s a reminder that a fair amount of quiet, unglamorous work goes into the infrastructure most of us take for granted.
