A brand with more than 330 stores across India is about to open its doors in Kuwait.
BIBA, one of Indiaโs best-known ethnic womenswear labels, is coming to Kuwait through a new partnership with Saaz Group. The deal will bring BIBAโs traditional and modern collections to some of the countryโs major shopping destinations, similar to the kind of retail buzz we saw around the Souq Sharq seaside makeover plans.
For the large Indian community in Kuwait, and for anyone who loves ethnic fashion, this is a name many will already recognise from trips home or from online shopping.
- BIBA, founded in Mumbai in 1988, is launching in Kuwait through a partnership with Saaz Group.
- The brand will bring its full range: salwar kameez, kurtas, suit sets, fusion wear, unstitched fabric and occasion wear.
- A youth-focused line called BIBA NXT and a childrenโs range called BIBA Girls are also part of the launch.
- The deal was announced by Saaz Group founder Dr Shabbir Qamar and BIBA managing director Siddharth Bindra.
Who is behind this deal?
The partnership is led by two people. Dr Shabbir Qamar, founder and managing director of Saaz Group, is handling the Kuwait side. Siddharth Bindra, managing director of BIBA, represents the Indian brand.
Dr Qamar said Saaz Group was happy to bring BIBA to Kuwait. He called it a name that stands for the colours and craftsmanship of Indian fashion. He said the partnership would combine BIBAโs fashion background with Saaz Groupโs knowledge of the local market and its retail experience, with the goal of building an appealing shopping experience for customers here.
Siddharth Bindra said expanding abroad is a key part of BIBAโs growth plan. He pointed to growing interest in Indian fashion overseas, especially in the Middle East. He said he expects the Kuwait partnership to introduce BIBAโs collections to local customers and help the brand build a strong presence in the region.
What exactly is BIBA?
BIBA was started in Mumbai in 1988 by Meena Bindra. Over the years it has grown into one of Indiaโs most recognised womenswear brands, known for affordable, everyday ethnic clothing.
Its range includes salwar kameez, kurtas worn day to day, ready-made suit sets, fusion outfits that mix Indian and Western styles, unstitched fabric for tailoring, and heavier occasion wear for weddings and festivals. The brand has also grown into premium wedding wear, along with handbags, footwear, jewellery, fragrances and other accessories.
In India, BIBA runs more than 330 stores across 26 states. It is also sold through big retail chains such as Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle and Pantaloons, which makes it one of the most widely available ethnic wear brands in the country.
Whatโs new for younger shoppers and kids
Kuwaitโs launch will also bring in BIBA NXT, a newer line aimed at Gen Z and millennial shoppers. Think fusion silhouettes, corset-style tops and designs that blend Indian touches with international trends, rather than the strictly traditional look.
Thereโs also BIBA Girls, the brandโs childrenโs range, made for kids between 2 and 15 years old. So this isnโt only a launch for mothers and grandmothers shopping for traditional wear. Itโs aimed at a much wider age group.
What this means if you live in Kuwait
For Kuwaitโs Indian community, which includes the growing South Asian workforce and long-settled families alike, this gives another option for festive and everyday ethnic wear without needing to order online from India or wait for a trip home.
It also fits into a wider pattern of retail growth in Kuwait. Local retailers such as Trolley, which posted strong profit growth this year, show that Kuwaitโs shopping and consumer market keeps expanding, and international brands clearly see demand here.
For expats more broadly, a new brand opening in Kuwait is always a small sign of how connected the countryโs malls are to shopping trends elsewhere. If youโve followed events like the Indian community gatherings held here, youโll know Indian culture already has a strong presence in Kuwait, and fashion is simply the next step.
