If youโre a Pakistani passport holder living in Kuwait and thinking about a quick trip to Qatar, thereโs good news. You can now get a free 30-day visa the moment you land โ no embassy visit, no advance paperwork fee. But it only works if you meet four specific conditions, and missing even one of them could mean youโre not let in.
Qatarโs Ministry of Interior announced the facility for Pakistani citizens, separate from the countryโs other visa-free and tourist visa arrangements. Itโs a similar move to what we saw with the UAEโs recent visa-on-arrival expansion and Omanโs visa-free deal with Pakistan earlier this month โ Gulf countries are clearly making it easier for Pakistani travellers to visit.
- Pakistani citizens can get a free visa on arrival in Qatar for up to 30 days.
- The visa length can be shorter, depending on your hotel booking dates.
- You must meet all four conditions set by Qatarโs Ministry of Interior โ thereโs no partial approval.
- This is separate from Qatarโs other visa-free or tourist visa schemes.
What are the four conditions?
Qatarโs Ministry of Interior has set out exactly what Pakistani travellers need before they fly. Here they are, in plain terms:
- Passport validity: Your passport must have at least 3 months of validity left from the date you arrive in Qatar.
- Return ticket: You need a confirmed return ticket. An open-ended or one-way ticket wonโt meet this condition.
- Hotel booking through Discover Qatar: Your accommodation must be booked through Discover Qatar, the countryโs official tourism platform. Bookings made on other websites, apps or travel agents will not count, even if the hotel itself is in Qatar.
- Approved health insurance: You must carry valid health insurance from a company approved by Qatarโs Ministry of Public Health. Generic travel insurance bought elsewhere may not qualify unless the insurer is on Qatarโs approved list.
The ministry has been clear: all four conditions must be met together. If youโre missing one โ say, your hotel was booked through a third-party site instead of Discover Qatar โ you are not guaranteed entry on this free visa-on-arrival basis.
So who does this actually affect?
This applies to Pakistani passport holders travelling to Qatar for tourism. In Kuwait, that includes the large Pakistani community here who might fly to Doha for a weekend, a family visit, or simply a short holiday without going through Pakistan first.
It doesnโt apply to people already holding other types of Qatari visas, and itโs separate from any existing visa-free arrangements Qatar has with other countries. If you hold a different visa type or are travelling for work rather than tourism, these four conditions donโt apply to you in the same way.
What you should do before you travel
Qatarโs Ministry of Interior has told Pakistani travellers to check the latest requirements before flying and have every document ready in advance. Given the strict wording โ that failing to meet the criteria means entry isnโt assured โ itโs worth treating this as a checklist, not a suggestion.
Before you book your trip:
- Check your passportโs expiry date. You need at least 3 months left from your Qatar arrival date.
- Buy a return ticket, not a one-way fare.
- Book your hotel only through the Discover Qatar platform โ double-check this before you pay, as other booking sites wonโt count even for the same hotel.
- Arrange health insurance from a provider approved by Qatarโs Ministry of Public Health, and keep proof of it with you when you travel.
More international travel news like this is worth following if you travel often between Kuwait and the wider Gulf region, since rules can change with little warning.
Quick answers
How long does the free visa last?
Up to 30 days, though it can be shorter depending on how many nights youโve booked through Discover Qatar.
Can I book my hotel through any website?
No. Only bookings made directly through Discover Qatar, Qatarโs official tourism platform, count towards this visa. Bookings from other sites will not qualify, even for the same hotel.
What happens if I donโt have approved health insurance?
Without insurance from a company approved by Qatarโs Ministry of Public Health, you wonโt meet all four conditions, and the ministry says entry isnโt guaranteed in that case.
Does this replace Qatarโs other visas for Pakistanis?
No. This free visa-on-arrival facility is separate from Qatarโs existing visa-free arrangements and tourist visa schemes, so itโs worth checking which option suits your trip best.
If youโre planning a Qatar trip from Kuwait, itโs worth sorting your hotel booking and insurance well before your flight date, not at the airport. Have you used a similar visa-on-arrival scheme in the Gulf recently? Let us know how it went in the comments.
