Students and teachers fainted in School

Students fainted and some suffered from shortness of breath due to power failure in Al-Seif and Al- Sofor Private School in Farwaniya. The power cut occurred in the middle of the school day when seven students in the intermediate and primary levels, a school nurse and two teachers fainted due to intense heat and fear.

According to acting Superintendent of Arab private schools Najat Al-Ruweishid, the affected students, two teachers and the school nurse were rushed to Farwaniya Hospital. Al-Ruweishid told the press that the school’s administration immediately called the Ministry of Electricity’s Emergency Department in Farwaniya to notify them about the blackout in the school, whereas the principal ordered the teachers to assemble at the school yard.

She affirmed the administration called the paramedics as a precautionary measure before any case of fainting occurred and notified the parents to pick up their children due to the situation. She assured the seven students, their two teachers and school nurse have since been discharged from the hospital.

On the other hand, School Principal Hanaa Al-Turki said the school got in touched with the concerned department in the Ministry of Electricity and made four reports concerning the power cut from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm. Al-Turki added the ministry’s personnel arrived at the scene and conducted several checks and then left without notifying the school about the reason behind the power cut.

She disclosed the school consists of about 5,000 students and the situation was dealt with professionally despite the huge number of students, and the parents who were notified first were those of the students who showed signs of phobia due to the situation. She pointed out that in case power is not restored, the administration will coordinate with the concerned department in the Education Ministry to close it temporarily.
