expired parrrrssportThe number of violators of residency law has reached a record high after it increased from about 91,000 expatriates to 107,396 expatriates last Tuesday, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources from Ministry of Interior. They indicated that the sudden increase within the last two months is due to the penalties charged for non-renewal of passports, as a large number of the expatriates are low-income earners who cannot afford to pay the fines of thousands of dinars imposed on them and their dependants. The sources revealed that many expatriates were shocked to be imposed with such heavy fines despite having a valid residence permit because of which they are listed among the violators of the residency law.
