Funds for 90,500 jobs for expatriates in ministries

In contrast to the trend and the government announced plans to recruit Kuwaitis in ministries and various government agencies, an official document which is obtained by the daily showed the government allocated funds for 90,500 jobs for non-Kuwaitis in ministries and government institutions by increasing about 5,000 new jobs for expatriates in those entities fiscal ended March 2019, reports Al-Anba daily.

The document shows the new jobs are an addition to the number of existing jobs and does not include replacement of those who were fired or terminated.

The estimated cost of the new jobs for expatriates is about 40 million dinars, with the average monthly salary of an expatriate in the government institution at 681 dinars, according to government data.

This coincides with the action of government agencies that canceled hiring of 6,500 people when Kuwaitis were to be employed as part of the government’s plan to increase the number of Kuwaitis in the government. However, some jobs were not occupied which caused their cancellation.

The number of vacancies for Kuwaitis in the government sector by the end of March 2017 was about 5,300 jobs. The government allocated 7.23 billion dinars to the salaries section and compensation for workers in the financial budget estimated for fiscal 2018/2019, which ends in March, was up by 7% from the previous budget, which amounted to salaries of 6.8 billion dinars.

The Ministry of Education is dominated by the expatriates by about half of those working in the government sector with 42,000 expatriates, while more than 35% of the expatriates work in the Ministry of Health with about 35,400 employees. The Ministry of Awqaf ranked third after the ministries of Education and Health in terms of the number of expatriates working with 3,316 followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with 2,546 expatriates and then the Ministry of Electricity and Water with about 1,800 expatriates.
