10000 KD fine and penalties for hiring illegal expats
Official spokesperson of the Public Authority for Manpower Aseel Al-Mazya has called on all employers to abide by the law, warning that stiff penalties will be imposed on those who employ expatriates under the sponsorship of other employers.
In a press statement, Al-Mazyad disclosed the authority launched a media campaign to raise awareness among employers on these stiff penalties and to stop them from hiring those who violated the Residency Law. She explained the campaign dubbed as “Ta’zeez” (Consolidation) aims to consolidate the concept of suitable labor in Kuwait and to inform employers about what they should do to achieve the development objectives of the country through the creation of a safe, stable and fair working environment for everyone.
She said the law stipulates jail term not exceeding three years and fine of not less than KD 2,000 and not more than KD 10,000 or both penalties for employers who hire workers who are not under their sponsorship. She added this does not interfere with the administrative right to deport such employees.
In another development, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) Ahmad Al-Mussa said the authority on Tuesday discussed with representatives of some ministries and other governmental bodies the proposal to reduce by 25 percent the number of expatriate security guards and cleaning workers for government contracts and projects.
This is part of the ongoing coordination between the authority, ministries and other governmental bodies on estimating the manpower needs for government contracts and projects in line with the State’s plan to tackle imbalances caused by the appointment of expatriate workers.
The representatives expressed their appreciation for the efforts exerted in this regard, affirming they are complying with the Cabinet’s directives on reducing the number of expatriate security guards and cleaning workers with different percentages of the total number mentioned in the contracts that were signed, renewed and extended.
