Fifty percent of the respondents in a survey conducted recently by Al-Seyassah daily expressed objection to the proposal to impose governmental fees on the remittances of expatriates without conducting a comprehensive study in this regard. These respondents warned about the consequences of taking such an unstudied step as it could negatively affect the local economy, reduce the value of remittances, and prompt the expatriates to find other ways of sending money to their home countries without paying fees. Meanwhile, 42 percent of the respondents support the proposal while two percent refused to comment on the issue.
