The Ministry of Interior has started taking measures to address the issue of 86,000 expatriates who violated the Residency Law and remained in the country despite the grace period granted to them to either leave the country without paying fines or to correct their status, reports Al-Rai daily.

The ministry recently launched an intensive security campaign in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and Hassawi, led by Undersecretary Lieutenant General Essam Al-Naham. The campaign resulted in the arrest of 500 expatriates, including marginal workers and those who violated the Residency Law.

Around 1,000 officers participated in the campaign, during which they checked the identification documents of 927 persons and referred 497 to the Deportation Center. Among those arrested include 18 who are wanted by law for involvement in civil cases, 60 who escaped from their employers, 59 marginal workers, 172 who failed to present valid identification papers, and one wanted by law for administrative deportation.

This is in addition to the registration of three cases of possessing drugs and alcohol, issuance of 297 traffic citations and impounding of seven vehicles. The department urged Kuwaiti citizens and expatriate to cooperate with securitymen and present their official documents when requested as well as avoid offering shelter to fugitives and violators of law.

It affirmed that such security campaigns will continue in all areas of the country throughout the week to ensure the law is applied.
