Each round highlighted a specific kitesurfing technique for the teams to show off their skills and accumulate the highest scores. The first round focused on a kitesurfing basic; air time; how long can the riders get their board off the water? After eight close heats, the winners of the round were chosen to proceed to the second battle, the competition for grab tricks. Who can execute the most tricks while grabbing their board? The kitesurfers had their hands full trying to get those tricks done before moving on to the third round, spin. That round was a crowd pleaser, judging the competitors on how many rotations they can execute in each kitesurfing trick.

The dizzying round was cut short due to a sudden decrease in wind power, causing International Red Bull athlete and renowned free style kitesurfer judge Ruben Lenten to end the spin round, stop the competition, and announce the top three. All teams made some waves throughout the rounds, but it was the A-Team and The Kuwait team who stood out above the rest, with The Kuwait team flying to first place, after securing a solid round.

This is the first time in Bahrain that an event of that scale takes place bringing together Kitesurfers from across the region. The 20 participants had a chance to ride and learn from Ruben on the 3rd and 4th of June . Omani Red Bull athlete Issa Al Aamri, was among the participants and his story of how he became a kitesurfer, coming from a fishermen family struck a chord with Ruben.

Commenting on the level of the scene Ruben said: “the level is already there and this is why it’s important to push it. The most important thing is for you (riders to have fun). Kitesurfing gives me a feeling of freedom and I want to spread that feeling and make people more knowledgeable about the sport”.
