The Indian Dentists’ Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK) is a fellowship of Indian Dental Surgeons residing in Kuwait. Entering in to the ninth year since its inception, IDAK is now well recognised for its outstanding social and community welfare activities. IDAK is affiliated to the Kuwait Dental Association and is registered with the Indian Embassy Kuwait. IDAK’s members form a major part of the expatriate Dental professionals in Kuwait. Over the years, IDAK has always been in the forefront of community service and has conducted numerous Oral health camps. It has partnered with other associations and participated in screening camps to provide easy access of specialized dentists to the low income expatriate community. IDAK also conducts regular screening camps in both Indian and Kuwaiti schools thereby educating the younger generation with good oral habits and general dental care. Keeping its focus on its goal of educating the community about dental health, IDAK started publishing Oral Health Guides since 2007. These guides explain dental diseases and treatment modalities in simple language that has received a lot of appreciation. The Oral Health Guide is published both in English and Arabic since 2010.

The 4th volume of the IDAK Oral Health Guide was released in a glittering ceremony on the 12th of December 2014 in the Pearl Tent, Safir International Hotel, Bneid Al Gar. The theme for the 4th Volume of Oral Health Guide is “Special Health Care Needs and Dentistry”. The dignitaries for the event included, the Honourable Ambassador of India to Kuwait, H.E. Mr. Sunil Jain, Assistant Under Secretary of Dental Affairs, Ministry of Health, Dr. Yousef Al Duwairy, Secretary General of Kuwait Institute of Medical Specialisation, Dr. Ibrahim Al Hadi, Director of Dental Administration, Dr. Sabiha Al Mutawa and many distinguished guests from Indian Associations, Schools, Armed Forces, Ministry of Health, Kuwait University and private sector. The principal sponsors for the event were Advanced Technology Company, Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Group and Skyline Builders.

In his inaugural speech, Indian Ambassador, H. E. Mr Sunil Jain lauded the Indian Dentists for bridging the gap between the Indian community and the people of Kuwait through such grant events. Dr. Yousef Al Duwairy, Assistant Undersecretary thanked and appreciated the great service offered by the dentists of Indian origin. KIMS Secretary General, Dr. Ibrahim Al Hadi congratulated IDAK on its achievements and offered all support from KIMS to the Alliance. In his message, President Dr. Roy congratulated the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah and the Kuwaiti people for the recent United Nations Humanitarian Leader Award. Dr. Roy also congratulated the Indian Government and the countrymen on the success of the the Mars Mission, as well as the receipt of the Nobel peace prize by Indian citizen Kailash Satyarthi. He noted that the remarkable achievement of Indian scientists was a demonstration of India’s powerful education system. “IDAK Dentist of the Year” was awarded to Dr. Sudhir Walvekar by Director of Dental Administration, MOH, Dr. Sabiha Al Mutawa. A senior and greatly respected figure in the dental fraternity and general community, Dr. Sudhir Walvekar has played a significant role in uniting Indian dentists and the establishment of the alliance.

This year’s cultural show was aptly called FACES 2014, acronym for a ‘Fun, Art, Cultural and Entertainment Show’. The stunning show was impeccably planned and performed by the IDAK family. From tiny tots to senior dentists participated in the cultural extravaganza, which included a variety of programs including music, dance, song, mime and drama, enthralling the audience and transporting them to a magical land where the rich culture of India blended with the culture of Middle East. A skit highlighting the benevolent and humanitarian contributions of Kuwait in the world was presented and greatly appreciated. Choreographers from Upasana Dance Studio, Break House Dance School along with IDAK choreographers and directors were instrumental in producing a mesmerizing visual treat to the invited guests, which included prominent members of the Indian community as well Kuwaiti community. For the first time ever, the live streaming of the event was available for friends and families all over the world, through IDAK website www.idakuwait.org and congratulatory messages flooded from US, UK, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and India.

The IDAK Council thanked the Finance Committee headed by Dr Sudhir Walvekar, Editororial Board headed by Dr. Sunil Kumar Gupta, Public Relations Committee headed by Dr. Johncen George, Event Management Committee headed by Dr. Dilip George, Membership Committee headed by Dr. Jacob Lonappan, Cultural Committee and the entire executive committee for organising the event in such an impressive manner. Cultural program was entirely planned and orchestrated by the Cultural Committee headed by Dr. Aju Wilson with Dr. Abraham Thomas, Dr. Aysha George, Dr. Garima Soni, Dr. Joshin Thomas and Dr. Pramod Menon as members. President Dr. Roy Francis and Secretary Dr. Rajesh Alexander congratulated the entire team of IDAK for organising such a beautiful event.
